International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN)
IMCO is a member of ICGN, a leading authority on global standards of corporate governance and investor stewardship.
Established in 1995 and led by investors responsible for assets under management of over $US 59 trillion in 40+ markets, ICGN advances the highest standards of corporate governance and investor stewardship worldwide in pursuit of long-term value creation, contributing to sustainable economies, societies, and the environment.
Paris Aligned Investment Initiative (PAII)
IMCO has joined the growing list of asset owners who have committed to achieve net-zero alignment by 2050 or sooner. By joining the PAII, IMCO is also becoming part of the U.N. Race to Zero and the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero.
Established in May 2019, the PAII supports asset owners and managers globally to implement action in line with the Paris Agreement goals, including supporting commitments through the PAII Net Zero Investment Framework.
Client Engagement Canada (CEC)
IMCO is a founding participant in the launch of Climate Engagement Canada (“CEC”), a finance-led initiative that aims to drive dialogue between the financial community and Canadian corporations to promote a just transition to a net zero economy.
The CEC is a groundbreaking Canadian initiative, coordinated by several investor networks including the Responsible Investment Association (RIA), Shareholder Association for Research and Education (SHARE), and Ceres. The UN-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) is also supporting the program.
As a member of Ceres investor network, IMCO works with other institutional investors to identify and share best practices in sustainable investing. In 2021, IMCO participated in Ceres’ Paris Aligned Investment Working Group. As part of the working group, we shared our experience developing a net- zero climate action plan and participated in education sessions focused on various topics, such as setting and achieving interim targets.
Through the 30% Club Canada, we encourage greater representation of women on corporate boards of directors.
IMCO endorses the Responsible Investing Association of Canada’s Canadian Investor Statement on Diversity & Inclusion.
As a signatory, we acknowledge the existence of systemic racism, inequalities and discrimination and its impact in Canada and globally. We believe that institutional investors can contribute to addressing these inequities by taking steps to promote diversity and inclusion across our portfolios and within our organizations. We are taking action because we believe promoting diversity and inclusion is not only the right thing to do; it is good for business and our society.
Canadian Coalition for Good Governance (CCGG)
Through our CCGG membership, we promote good governance practices at Canadian public companies and an improved regulatory environment to better align the interests of boards and management with those of their shareholders. We support CCGG’s direct engagement with Canadian public companies and CCGG’s public policy submissions, guidance and research.
IMCO is a member of CDP, a global non-profit that drives companies and governments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests. Hundreds of cities, states and regions, and more than 9,600 companies with over 50% of global market capitalization disclose environmental data through CDP. CDP’s information on how global companies and governments are driving environmental change help investors make responsible investing decisions.
Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI)
IMCO became a signatory to the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in June 2019, joining 2,450 signatories from around the world representing more than $80 trillion in assets under management. The PRI is an independent organization that encourages investors to understand the investment implications of ESG factors.
As a PRI signatory, IMCO becomes part of a global organization that works to understand the investment implications of ESG factors and supports investor signatories in incorporating these factors into their investment and ownership decisions. The PRI’s resources will help IMCO to stay abreast of developments in this changing field and collaborate with peers to influence the markets and companies in which we invest. The PRI requires signatories to report annually on their responsible investing activities, which creates a meaningful accountability mechanism.
Over time, as we report on our responsible investing activities and receive assessments from the PRI, we will be able to evaluate our priorities and track our progress.
Responsible Investment Association
As an RIA member, we believe that the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into the selection and management of investments can provide superior risk-adjusted returns while contributing to positive societal change.
IMCO is a Signatory of the Canadian Investor Statement on Climate Change. Thirty-six institutional investors managing $5.5 trillion in assets have signed the Statement coordinated by the RIA, which makes clear the actions major Canadian investors will take to advance the global pursuit of net zero, including disclosing their financed emissions and setting an expectation that their investees will establish emissions targets and report on their progress.
