IMCO joins Global Real Estate Engagement Network (GREEN)

TORONTO (April 15, 2026) – The Investment Management Corporation of Ontario (“IMCO”) has joined the Global Real Estate Engagement Network (“GREEN”), an industry coalition of institutional investors focused on addressing financially material climate risks and opportunities in the real estate sector.

Through dedicated workstreams, GREEN engages with real estate companies and funds to improve climate risk management and identifies opportunities across the industry to lift systemic barriers to speeding up decarbonization. Established in 2021, the network has grown to represent investors with over €4 trillion in assets under management.

IMCO's participation in GREEN directly supports our sustainability goals, including reaching a net-zero portfolio by 2050. GREEN's initiatives, such as establishing industry-accepted financial metrics for evaluating decarbonization, align with our value-driven approach to engagement.

"Climate-related risks are increasingly material to real estate performance and long-term asset value," said Richard Varkey, Managing Director and Head of Real Estate at IMCO. “By joining GREEN, we gain access to leading thinking and collaboration with global peers to improve data, standards and engagement practices. This work will enable more informed decision-making and strengthen how we manage climate risks in our portfolio.”

As part of its membership, IMCO is endorsing the LOTUF (Leaders of the Urban Future)-GREEN North Star Principles, a set of best practices for climate action in real estate.

ABOUT GREEN

GREEN is a network of both asset managers and asset owners focused on financial material climate risk and opportunity. On recognition of real estate’s exposure to climate risk and the financial consequences faced by the sector, the network was founded to assess and improve climate risk management among real estate companies and funds and has since joined forces with Leaders of the Urban Future to lift those systemic barriers in the industry that prevent the industry to speed up decarbonization. GREEN has now grown to become an investor network which represents over EUR 4 trillion of total Assets under Management.
